Contemplating the Black experience through the intersection of art and fashion.
Contemplating the Black experience through the intersection of art and fashion.
The New Black Vanguard is a phrase that nods to a constantly evolving space of young creatives unafraid to uproot historic conventions. Coined by writer and critic, Antwaun Sargent, it also serves as the title of his latest exhibition which opened at the Saatchi Gallery in partnership with Burberry.
The digital activation on Burberry's social channels features the voices of Bolade Banjo, Kusi Kubi and Kwabena Sekyi Appiah-nti. Each artist discusses their individual approach to framing the Black subject, exploring themes of identity, community and honest artistry.
Visceral excerpts of the photography and films within the space are juxtaposed against the interviews and serve as a visual retrospective of the exhibition, taking inspiration from the ways the human body navigates within a physical space and the ways our eyes take in information. We wanted the constant movement to illustrate the way that representations of Blackness on screen continue to evolve.
